Kindergarten Information

Junior High Information

Our Elementary School begins with a Transitional Kindergarten and continues through Grade 8. This program includes a strong academic curriculum taught in a Christian environment by Christian teachers.

Our purpose is to share the Gospel and equip students to be responsible disciples, trusting in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and prepared to live successfully as Christian leaders and servants in our nation and the world. The Word of God is taught, students learn effective decision-making skills, and Christian character traits are modeled, and applied. We want each student to acquire a sense of value as a redeemed child of God, respect for others, and a love of learning.

It does not discriminate based on sex, race, color, age, disability, or national and/or ethnic origin in the administration of educational policies, admission policies, scholarships, and athletic and other school-administered programs.

 Active Member Grant

Active members of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church are eligible for a tuition assistance Grant for the yearly tuition.

 Financial Assistance – Grades TK – 8th

The Financial Assistance process is completely separate from the Admissions and Enrollment process, however, only students who are fully enrolled at Abiding Savior will be eligible to receive any financial assistance. So, we recommend you simultaneously complete both the financial assistance application and the admissions application.

  • FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment will be conducting the financial need analysis for the 2022/2023 school year. Families applying for financial aid will need to complete an application and submit the necessary supporting documentation to FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment.
  • The application process is self-guided. You may navigate in and out of the program, allowing you to partially complete an application and go back to it another time. The charge for the application is $40, to be paid by credit card at the end of the session.
  • Once you have submitted the requested documents, FACTS will perform a financial analysis. Then the application will be reviewed by the Financial Aid Committee. Once the Financial Aid Committee has completed the evaluation, you will receive a letter in the mail containing the financial aid award.
  • Financial Aid grants are made for one year only; therefore, you must reapply each year.
  • Applicants can apply online on the school’s FACTS website.
  • If you have any questions or concerns about the application process, you may speak with a FACTS Customer Care Representative at 866-441-4637.

 Mid-Year Enrollment

For students enrolling any time after the first day of school, tuition will be prorated based on the days remaining in the school year. There are no adjustments made on Registration Fees.

FAQ

What is the class size?
Generally our Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten have no more than 20 students and 25 in Grades 1-8, although typically the classes range between 18 and the low 20s.
Are the teachers Christian?
All of our teachers are strong believers in Jesus as their Lord and Savior and lead lives of active service to him. They are members of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church and believe they are called to serve God here as a ministry to his children—not just as a job to be filled.
What is your curriculum?
We follow the basic California Standards in the curricular areas, either meeting or exceeding them. We also teach a religion curriculum, based on the Scriptures, with application to the lives of our students. We are on a five-year curriculum review cycle so textbooks are updated regularly.
Just how much “religion” do you teach? What does it mean to be a Lutheran school?
Lutheran schools are discipleship centers, where students are reminded daily of God’s love for them in Jesus. Christian teachers model God’s love and forgiveness and respond to his love by Christian living. In addition to the religion curriculum, we worship together each week in a chapel service led by one our pastors, teachers, or classes. A student praise band assists with chapel each week, and sometimes individual classes sing during a regular church service. Students memorize portions of Scripture. We pray for and with each other regularly. Important events such as Christmas and Easter are celebrated in keeping with their true meaning. We support our country as God’s gift to us and encourage patriotism. Every class is involved in service and caring projects. Students are taught to follow Jesus’ ways and to tell others about him.
How do your test scores compare with the public schools?

We administer the NWEA Map Testing yearly to students in grades three through eight. These are nationally-normed standardized tests, comparing our students to students across the nation. The tests given in the public schools are similar, but more directed specifically to California. We do not have access to the exact same tests so it is difficult to compare numbers in a meaningful way.

We will be happy to sit down and review these scores with you. Our students score well above grade level on these tests, and a high proportion of our students score in the top 20 percentiles. As a school, we score in the top 20-25% of all schools nationwide. We do not teach to these tests. They give us a “snapshot” of how our students are doing on the day the test is taken. They give us valuable information about our curriculum and help track student progress from year to year. Tests are administered three times a year so the data collected can be more directly used to plan instruction for the year.

What extra-curricular activities do you offer?
Extended field trips are enjoyed by our upper grade students. Fourth grade has gone to Sacramento, San Francisco, and gold-mining country, although this year they will attend a Gold Rush Days education camp in Jamul. Fifth grade visits Riley’s Farm for first hand experience in colonial living. Sixth grade enjoys a week-long outdoor education camp at Arrowhead Lutheran Camp. Seventh grade studies oceanography. Eighth grade visits the Washington D.C. area. In addition, opportunities are offered in music (band, choir, and handbells), Scouts, athletics, chess, dance, extended care, and much more. Students in seventh and eighth grades are involved in an electives program. Musicals, curriculum fairs, Grandparents Day, Spelling Bees, B.O.B. (Battle of the Books), Science Olympics, Field Day, and other special events are scheduled throughout the year.
Should I send my child to ASLS?
Yes! We hope you will consider doing just that. You may contact us at
(949) 830-1461
with any questions or to arrange a tour.
Are the teachers qualified?

Yes, our teachers are credentialed and most have a Lutheran Teacher certification. Occasionally we will hire a teacher who is in the process of completing those requirements. Half of our teachers have Master’s degrees. The average length of experience is 14 years, and many teachers and administrators are active in local, regional, and national leadership roles.

Is the school accredited?

Yes, we are fully accredited with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and with National Lutheran School Accreditation (NLSA).

What communication is there between parents and the school?

All teachers have a website on which is posted information about what is going on in their classes as well as homework assignments. Through GradeLink, parents may access their students’ current grades at any time, complete with a list of any missing assignments. Teachers are available through email, phone calls, or personal conferences. A weekly newsletter called the Bull Horn is sent home by email at the beginning of each week detailing school-wide events. Special arrangements can be made to monitor individual students through daily or weekly reports.

I’m not a Lutheran. Is that okay?

All are welcome here. Typically about 40% of our students are members at Abiding Savior, about 12% are not affiliated with a church, and the rest are members of other Christian congregations in our community.

What resources are available for children with special needs?

We have a resource teacher on staff that helps students who need accommodations or modifications to the regular curriculum. We are unable to meet the needs of children with severe learning or behavioral disabilities, but we can help those students who need a little extra individualized care.

Withdrawal Policy
To terminate enrollment, parents must notify the school office in writing. In the event of student withdrawal after registration, all accounts must be paid up to and including the month in which the student is withdrawn. There are no refunds on previously paid tuition installments; this includes payments made in June and August. If the full year was paid in advance, only the equivalent remaining installments are refundable; and if the withdrawal is made prior to the first day of school, June and August payments are non-refundable. There are no refunds of any kind after March 1st of the current school year.
How do your students do in high school and in life?

About half of our graduates go on to attend local public schools, and half enroll in one of our Lutheran high schools in Orange County (Orange Lutheran in Orange or Crean Lutheran High School in Irvine). Our graduates who have applied themselves at Abiding Savior report that they find high school to be an easy transition. Many qualify for advanced placement and honors classes. Some have gone on to be recognized as honor students. They score high on the placement tests given at the Lutheran high schools. They cite the faith building they received at Abiding Savior as a significant influence on their lives. Several former students have now enrolled their own children at Abiding Savior, and five former students are currently on our staff.

What our parents are saying about Abiding Savior!

I just wanted to share with you what a great experience my kids and I have had so far at Abiding Savior! It’s night and day difference compared to public schools and I am so impressed with the caliber of teachers and staff you have. The kids and parents all seem very pleased and for us it’s been life changing. Thank you!

Stephanie B.

I have three children that all have attended Abiding Savior Lutheran School since Preschool. For the last thirteen years, it has been a second home to my children. Not only is the school Christ-Centered, the staff and teachers in a loving way prepared my children to go on to High School with ease.

Best school choice for our son!!! Great education, God loving staff and fantastic kids!!!

Shannon P.

Highly qualified teaching faculty that provide a loving Christian learning environment. We LOVE Abiding Savior Preschool & School! So many fun family events too!

Kimberly M.

Our son and daughter have been attending the Abiding Savior school since Pre-K. We are extremely pleased with the education they are receiving and will strongly recommend the school to any parent looking for a Christ centered education for their children.

Our family became members of the church after our children started going to school. We found a home away from home and cannot find enough words to describe the warmth of everyone involved, from the pastors to the ushers to the congregation in general.

As Seth finishes his first year of high school, I was thinking how can this be? It seems like yesterday he was coming to Abiding Savior for his first day of Kindergarten. Well, I just wanted to say thank you for all the love and guidance you and the school gave Seth during his time there. He is growing into a godly young man. He finished this year with a 3.87 GPA (taking Honors Geometry). He is very involved with his Youth Group and group called Sea Cadets (a very intensive naval program for Youth). He was just accepted for a week long math, science, technology and engineering program at the Naval program…Abiding Savior played a very big part in helping to shape Seth. So, I wanted to thank you and all the teachers for being an important part in Seth’s life.

When our daughter was preparing to enter kindergarten, we researched Christian schools all over Orange County, praying to find a “right fit”.  At the time we thought it was all about what was “best and right” for her. God led us to Abiding Savior.  Little did we know then how blessed our entire family would be over the next nine years.

Kirsten will be entering Crean High School next fall with far more than a solid educational foundation, though she certainly has that. The Abiding Savior teachers and staff have supported and nurtured her spiritual, emotional and character development as she grows in her own identity, personal values and integrity.  She has learned that success is more than just a grade or a trophy; it’s about the person she is inside.  She has been encouraged to try new things, to step out of her “comfort zone”, to accept and appreciate others, and to share the gifts she has been blessed with.

Our family involvement in many volunteer activities and projects throughout these years has provided us with special memories that we cherish.  We appreciate beyond measure the many opportunities to be an active part of this phase of our daughter’s life.  May God continue to bless our Abiding Savior Family!

Dear Abiding Savior Lutheran School,

As a grandparent I am always looking for the perfect gift for my grandchildren. I have found Abiding Savior to be not only an amazing gift for my grandsons but also for my adult daughter. As a single mom she was struggling with lots of issues last summer with one son about to enter Kindergarten and another in Preschool. The Public School classes were 35-40 children and he would have been lost, he was already having issues in preschool.  Abiding Savior classes were less than HALF that size. I made a decision to make School their Major Gifts for that year. In the first 3 months we saw a peace settle over both my grandchildren, issues began to resolve! They loved it here and adored the entire staff! My daughter has also seen an amazing change in the boys, and feels so blessed as they sing the Christian songs to her each evening! Now, six months later…I KNOW it’s the best gift I’ve ever given! I see boys who are learning not only their academics but self control and respect. Because it’s a small school these boys feel like they not only have a place where they feel secure, they also feel a sense of family here…and so do we. Thank you so very much for all you do for our family.

Dear Abiding Savior,

I wanted to take a moment to share my personal thanks for the years that my children and I have been blessed by our own involvement in and at Abiding Savior.  It does take a village to raise a child and I am forever in your debt for your assistance, encouragement, and the personal growth that Abiding Savior has provided my children and me.  With Marina entering eighth grade this next school year, our “school age” student relationship at Abiding Savior is now limited and coming to fruition with her impending graduation next year.

My part-time employment was the next biggest blessing extended to our family.  It enabled me to basically make my own hours (most of the time), leave without question or hesitation when one of my children was sick or needed me, and also giving me and the kids yet another link to our church and school.  We are blessed to be a part of Abiding Savior’s church body, Abiding Savior’s student(s), student-parent, and alumni, and part of our unique and very special staff.  One could say I had the whole kit and caboodle at Abiding Savior and for that I am forever grateful!!!

In addition to all of that we were also afforded many great opportunities to touch the lives of others through our gifts of service.  It has been my pleasure and honor to aide in the many, many events and functions at our school and church.  I very much look forward to growing old here with my “family.”

Thank you for this and so much more!! ! ! !

Blessings!

– Margo
